For a sleeve or tube, centrifugal casting vs sand casting begins with the relationship between the required geometry and a rotating mold. True centrifugal casting forms a hollow cylindrical casting through rotation. Conventional sand casting can create cylindrical parts using a different mold and core arrangement, including shapes that depart from a simple rotational form.

Confirm which centrifugal process is being proposed

The word centrifugal is used for several casting arrangements. A quotation should identify whether it refers to true centrifugal production of a hollow cylinder or another rotation-assisted process. That distinction matters when discussing the bore and the need for cores.

Begin with the finished cross-section and all attached features. A plain sleeve and a housing with an offset branch may require very different manufacturing solutions even if both contain a central bore.

Treat the inside surface as part of the machining plan

A centrifugally cast blank may be supplied with stock for internal and external machining. The required removal should be agreed for the actual alloy, process and acceptance requirements. A buyer should not assume that the as-cast bore is automatically the finished working surface.

For either route, identify the machining datums and final wall requirement. This helps avoid a blank that meets its rough dimensions but leaves insufficient stock to produce the required concentric finished surfaces.

Geometry can outweigh a general process advantage

Sand casting can provide options for nonuniform outer features and connections that do not fit a straightforward rotating-mold arrangement. Centrifugal casting may offer an attractive route for a suitable cylindrical blank. The comparison should follow the complete component rather than one section of it.

If the proposal adds welding or separate assembly to create external features, include that work and its qualification in the comparison. A simpler casting does not necessarily mean a simpler finished product.

Specify quality where the part carries load

Agree the material condition and the examinations needed after machining. Critical regions and acceptance criteria should be identified before production, especially where the component has pressure or structural duties.
